What You Call Yourself

“As you name the ship, so shall it sail.”

And this works for people too. Whatever you call yourself…

Sometimes I look at a person and think: “Lord, what is all this for them?” And I realize that it’s not “what for?”, but “what to what end?”. So that the person becomes precisely who they call themselves. Who they consider themselves to be (excluding fools, charlatans, and the mentally ill).

So, upon closer examination, it turns out that the person walked towards this themselves. Purposefully, systematically, step by step in one direction. Whether they understood this or not does not matter.

And all those misfortunes that happen along the way are a part of it. Their inseparable components.
